Is Asking For An Expensive Gift, Ok Or A Big No-No

Many women want to ask for an expensive gift when they are dating someone but it is important to really think about this idea of this before you ask.

Whether it's okay to ask for an expensive give will largely depend on where you are in the process of dating. Are the two of you getting closer? Have you been dating a long time or just a few weeks? If only for a few weeks then the answer is definitely "no". You don't want your guy to think you are a gold digger, do you? You should wait an appropriate amount of time before you ask for something really expensive.

No one really defines what an appropriate amount of time is, but we can tell you that you will know and that the appropriate time is different for different people. The best time is once you have established the relationship and you know what to expect out of each other.

Before you start asking for expensive things, you need to know where you stand with each other. If you are moving into a more committed relationship a semi-expensive gift may be a good way to show you care.

If you are still in just a dating mode, the guy might wonder why he should buy something that expensive when he is not sure he will stay with you. An expensive gift should not be a test to him to see how much he cares, which may be a pressure he is feeling. 

A relationship shouldn't be about what someone can buy for you or the money they spend, but about how the two of you work together to create a healthy experience together. This will be more valuable than anything else you could buy.

Another thing to ask yourself is WHY you want an expensive gift. Are you trying to see if he loves you? A better way is just to ask him. Do you think that because he is a guy he should do this? If so, what are you willing to give to him?

Some guys are going to weigh in the balance whether you have earned it or not and this will be something that may not make you happy. Each guy has a different way of thinking about it and they may not be as generous as you think. Also, a guy might want more from you than you are willing to give so you have to be prepared for him to ask for something too.

It is always a better idea to really get to know someone first and be sure that this is someone you want to spend a lot of time with or the rest of your life. You might find that if you wait and allow things to unfold, that when you get to a certain point, he just automatically buys you something expensive.

The bottom line is to get to know him before you start asking for expensive gifts. This way you won't be disappointed or put into a position you do not want to be in.
